Kathy Stenzel Elected to Golden Belt Bank's Board of Directors

Kathy Stenzel has been elected to the Golden Belt Bank Board of Directors to serve a three year term.
Ms. Stenzel has worked for Golden Belt Bank for 23 years. She began with the bank in 1994 as the administrative assistant to the President. She continually took on new roles and responsibilities as the bank grew and expanded. Kathy now serves as the Vice President of Operations, and directs bank operations for Golden Belt Bank’s three locations.
“Kathy has always been very dedicated to Golden Belt Bank and has helped implement and guide many projects and changes over the years for the bank. I am very excited for her to take on this new role and continue to provide additional leadership and guidance for our great institution,” stated Chris Wente, President.
Ms. Stenzel was elected to fill a position vacated by veteran Board member Nick Niernberger. Niernberger served as a director for 23 years.

Golden Belt Bank Scholarship Recipients Announced
Golden Belt Bank of Ellis and Hays is proud to present the 2017 recipients of the Golden Belt Bank Scholarship. The Golden Belt Bank Scholarship is intended for those high school seniors who plan to attend an accredited post-secondary school full-time in the fall of 2017. A non-renewable $1,000 scholarship is awarded to one qualifying high school senior from each of the following schools: Ellis High School, Hays High School, Thomas More Prep-Marian High School, and Victoria High School.
The chosen recipient from Ellis High School was Jessica Gamez-Ramos. Jessica is planning on attending Colby Community College and will seek a degree in dental hygiene. She is the daughter of Domingo and Martha Gamez.
At Hays High School, Marissa Dinkel was selected. Marissa plans to attend Fort Hays State University and major in nursing. She is the daughter of Sean and Lisa Dinkel.
Mackenzie Fitzgerald was selected from Thomas More Prep-Marian High School. Mackenzie will attend FHSU in the fall and intends to pursue a degree in criminal justice. She is the daughter of Timothy and Teresa Greenwood.
From Victoria High School, Ashlyn Hammerschmidt was selected. Ashlyn will be attending Sterling College and begin working towards her chosen career as a cardiothoracic surgeon. She is the daughter of Mike and Teresa Hammerschmidt.

Morgan Federal Bank to Merge with Golden Belt Bank

Mid-America Financial Corp., parent company of Golden Belt Bank, and Morgan Financial Corp., the holding company for Morgan Federal Bank, are pleased to announce the signing of an agreement and plan of merger between Golden Belt Bank and Morgan Federal Bank. Morgan Federal Bank will be merged into Golden Belt Bank and operate as a branch office of Golden Belt Bank following the merger. The merger, subject to regulatory approval, is expected to close later this year.
“We are excited to welcome Morgan Federal Bank into our organization. Morgan Federal Bank is a community bank with the same core values that we possess, which makes them a natural addition to our business,” said Ronald Wente, President of Golden Belt Bank.
Golden Belt Bank is a $143 million bank with locations in Ellis and Hays, Kansas. Established in 1920, Golden Belt Bank offers a full range of consumer and business financial products.
Morgan Federal Bank is a $113 million community bank located in Fort Morgan, Colorado. They offer a full line of consumer and small business banking products and services. The merger will include Morgan Federal’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Northern Colorado Title Services Company, Inc., which provides real estate related financial and information services, including title insurance and real estate closing services.
The combined institution will have over $230 million in assets and three locations.

Golden Belt Bank Announces Retirement of Long-Time President/CEO

Ronald Wente has announced plans to retire from his role as President and CEO of Golden Belt Bank, effective October 1, 2017. Mr. Wente joined Golden Belt Bank in 1973, and has served as President/CEO since 1974. He will continue to serve as Chairman of the Board.
Wente has been instrumental in the exponential growth and success of Golden Belt Bank, which was chartered in 1920. When he began as CEO in 1974, the bank’s assets totaled a mere $5 million. A series of expansions followed with additional branches being opened, marking Golden Belt Bank’s entrance into the Hays community. Today’s assets are in excess of $140 million.
Under Wente’s direction, Western Plains Service Corporation was created. This subsidiary of Golden Belt Bank was organized to facilitate land development in Ellis County. On the land developed during its over 40 year existence sits approximately 1,000 single family homes, 50 duplexes, 10 apartment buildings and 20 businesses.
During his tenure, Wente expanded products and services to include long-term fixed rate home loans, helping turn Golden Belt Bank into the largest home loan lender in Ellis County. His customer-centered approach led Golden Belt Bank to adopt the practice of maintaining local servicing for every loan originated.
During his banking career, Wente has also served as an advocate for the banking industry. Wente served as a director for the Federal Home Loan Bank of Topeka for 17 years. He also served on the Heartland Community Bankers Association Board and on various committees of the American Bankers Association. Currently, Wente serves as a director for the Kansas Bankers Association. This dedication was also apparent in his community involvement as he served on a vast number of community organizations throughout his career.
Golden Belt Bank Director Dennis Bieker stated, “Ron has loyally served this bank for over 40 years. He helped Golden Belt Bank successfully navigate through multiple industry hardships. His depth of experience will be greatly missed.”
Wente’s son, Chris Wente, has been elected by the Board of Directors to fill the position of President/CEO.
“Golden Belt Bank is a community centered, community focused bank. I am excited to be leading a bank with such strong core values into the future,” said Chris Wente.
Chris currently serves as Executive Vice President. Chris graduated from Kansas State University in 1999 and worked in management at the Payless Distribution Center in Topeka, Kansas for several years before returning to Hays and assuming a position with Golden Belt Bank in 2006. During his tenure, Chris has served as the Branch Manager of the Hays office. As a loan officer, he has worked to provide home loans to individuals, commercial loans to businesses and everything in between. He has also played a big role in continuing the land development his predecessor began, expanding development in the northwest part of Hays, adding dozens of residential lots to the Hays community.
Chris Wente's election to this position is the fruition of a long-standing succession plan. "The Board has every confidence that Chris can continue to build upon the success his father has developed," stated Director Dennis Bieker.
Golden Belt Bank Honors Employees

Golden Belt Bank of Ellis and Hays recently honored several employees for their years of committed service to Golden Belt Bank.
Chris Wente, Executive Vice President, was honored for his 10 years of service. Wente is a loan officer who also serves as the Branch Manager of the Hays office. Wente also serves as a director for Golden Belt Bank.
Larissa Kuhn was honored for her 10 years of service. Kuhn was recently promoted to a loan officer after serving as a loan processor for almost 10 years.
Stan Mayers was honored for his 15 years of service. Mayers has served as the Chief Financial Officer of Golden Belt Bank since 2001.
Golden Belt Bank Announces Promotion of Brian Cox

Golden Belt Bank announces the promotion of Brian Cox to Assistant Vice President of Information Technology. Brian has served as the Network Administrator for Golden Belt Bank for over 11 years and brings 19 years of computer systems experience to this role.
Prior to his work with Golden Belt Bank, he served as a Systems Engineer for the Hutchinson, KS office of Agris Corporation. In this position, he designed and installed computer networks for companies throughout the US and Canada.
Golden Belt Bank Accepting Scholarship Applications

Golden Belt Bank is currently accepting scholarship applications from high school seniors. Golden Belt Bank will award a $1,000 scholarship to one high school senior from each of the area’s high schools: Hays High School, Ellis High School, TMP-Marian High School and Victoria High School.
High school seniors who plan to attend an accredited post-secondary school full-time in the fall semester following graduation are encouraged to apply.
