Overdraft Protection

Overdraft protection gives you the opportunity to avoid costly overdraft charges. You choose deposit accounts from which to transfer funds in the event that one of your checking accounts becomes overdrawn. Transfers may only be made between deposit accounts.

How does it work?

During overnight processing the system will check your designated accounts after all checks, debit card transactions and automatic withdrawals have been processed looking for an overdraft. If your account is overdrawn, it will move funds from the checking, savings or money market account you designated to cover the overdraft. However, transfers will always follow the rules below:

  • The minimum amount that can be transferred is $100
  • The system transfers funds in increments of $100
  • If your donor account does not have enough funds to cover the entire overdraft, the entire balance of the donor account will be transferred to the recipient account despite the rules stated above.

For instance, if your checking account has a negative balance of ($255.13), $300 would be transferred from your designated savings account to cover the overdraft. Similarly, if your checking account has a negative balance of ($25.18), $100 would be transferred from your savings account to cover the overdraft.

Are there any fees?

You can enjoy the convenience of overdraft protection for a nominal fee of $5 per transfer.

Are there any transaction limitations?

Transfers made on behalf of overdraft protection are considered pre-authorized withdrawals. Savings accounts and money market accounts may not exceed 6 pre-authorized withdrawals per monthly account cycle. If you exceed this limit, a transfer may not be made to cover the overdraft.

How do I sign up?

To sign up, simply fill out and return to us the Overdraft Protection Agreement. You may want to obtain overdraft protection on more than one checking account. If so, you must fill in the form according to the priority you want the overdrafts to be covered in. These priority decisions will be important if your savings account does not contain enough funds to cover the overdrafts on both accounts.
